A magnificent valley lodge scaled for a home and family retreat, complete with an outside kitchen with Italian masonry pizza oven, game arcade and bespoke cinema. An overall axial approach to site orientation focused the views from all prime rooms towards the La Plata Mountains. The massive scale of the great room required structural steel trusses, which were then cleverly bracketed with 4”x24” rough sawn timbers to evoke classic timber frame detailing. A local artisan metalcrafter custom forged fireplace doors, timber brackets, handrails and various contextually recreated artifacts. On-site water harvesting provided for a recirculating pond and stream system with multiple waterfalls.
